Scavenger Strategies

Keep your strength up. When my L783 Osiri scavenger was down a point below max strength, he blew lots of traps on level 13. After restoring him to full strength, his boxing is again very good. I suspect boxing ability depends on strength as well as dex.

At level 700 monsters cannot ever steal from you. This is a great advantage! You can carry lots of rings without worrying about them being taken. Though slimes, Politeness Monsters, Kenku, and other monsters with "slime" (destroy items) ability are a constant worry to everyone at any level.

Do not carry items you will not need.

The scavvie can also carry the potions, dusts, crystals, and so on the party needs, to protect them from thieves. And of course, carry the items and gold the party finds.

Wear White Flame Gauntlets to kill monsters, but carry a pair of Thief's Gloves for opening trapped boxes. You can carry two pair of White Flame Gauntlets and never run out of charges. Carry Gloves of Doom and you can take out magic-user types that can be killed only with dazzle-type spells--such encounters tend to have good treasure.

Carry a spare Medallion of the Dragons, for those times you're drained too low to use your Breath Taker.

Wear Helm of Brilliance for fighting; you can carry a Helm of Knowledge to Use to identify items you find. Its Int and Wis bonuses can give you fuller in-dungeon ID, especially if you shift-P the item, saving money you'd spend in the store to fully ID it. A spare Robe of Insight could also help.
