Teleporting

Flying up/down: favorite TP offsets

Please be careful. Teleporting into solid rock will always cause your character to have complications when resurrected. Be sure to double check these coordinates on your own before using them. 12,17,1 is the bottom of the city stairs. Both 12,17,2 and 12,17,3 are rock. Both 13,18,2 and 13,18,3 are safe. It is easy to teleport to the wrong level, either by forgetting what level you are on when you start, or by mis-hitting a key. If you get in the habit of aiming for 13,18,1 to return to city, and stepping the last two squares, you may save your party a painful death. Of course, always turn to face north before taking the stairs up to the city, so you will be facing north when you come back down.

Likewise, 10,16,z is safe (no rock, no pit, no anti-magic) for every level. (However, 10,17,2 is rock, and 9,16,5 are rock.) 10,16,1 is in the non-encounter corridor near the city stairs.


Note from a former guild master of the Magician's guild (20+ years ago), level 333:
I ALWAYS faced SOUTH instead of North for all TP's.. Reason: when you enter the city, you step south, and take the stairs. Unless you turn before you go up, you will always end up looking south when you reenter the dungeon. The only exception to this is the very first time you ever enter the dungeon. This means that if you face North, you have to remember to turn either before you go up or after you go down. If you forget you see the nice ROCK screen... And realize you blew it. Forget to change direction once, and you will learn...
Also, ALWAYS TP back on space NORTH of the steps, as if you are, for example going to the 3/4 steps, and you are on 4, but think you are on 3, and tp to 2 instead of 1.. You won't end up in ROCK. (There is rock below the city steps) Did that last week, so I know it happens.. TP'ed again 0,0,-1 and was fine.
It's easy to convert the coordinates below to south facing, just change the sign on the first two values. I.E. -8,-9,3 to go to the 4/5 steps, instead of 8,9,3.

Non-Encounter Areas: Use these squares to safely use a weak wizard to get the party deep, and for free parking for your teleporter, healer, locator, or other support char. You can leave a char in a non-encounter area long term, not going back to the city at the end of your run. There'll never be an encounter when you come back in.

25,6,14 and 25,25,14 and 8,12,14 and the room with safe corners at 15,16,14 and 14,15,14 are all the same non-encounter area. So a character in any of these places can track another character in either of the others. (6,25,14 teleports to 25,6,14; 6,6,14 teleports to 25,25,14.) See also the UserBlogs page.
6,11,15

See also "Game Tips": for which teleports can be saved by walking. For example, once you've teleported to the 24,16,5 rotator, instead of teleporting twice more back to the city, walking out is pretty safe through 2-4 level 5 encounters, 4 level 2 encounters, and 2 level 1 encounters, using the built-in teleporters at 28,12,5 to 15,14,2 and 13,19,2 to 13,19,1. To walk out from L11, using the 19,9,11 to 28,3,7 teleporter, adds 5 level 7 encounters and would eliminate one teleport.
